Drug use-
1800s-1900s: Drug use in the 1800s-1900s by musicians was not very popular. The death of ragtime musician Scott Joplin was due to health reasons; he had syphilis. He died in 1917. Louis Armstrong, another jazz musician, died of heart failure on July 6, 1971. Another ragtime musician of this time, Ben Harney, also died of heart failure. During those times, musicians didn’t use drugs for recreational reasons. But with the turn of the century, things changed. Instruments-
1800s-1900s: Instruments that were used in jazz and ragtime bands were unique. The musicians used pianos, banjos, and brass instruments when playing ragtime music. The instruments used to play jazz music were pianos and brass instruments. Although the instruments were similar in the different types of music, the styles were completely different. Different rhythms, different paces, different sounds. They were the most popular kinds of music during this time. Influence/Inspiration:
1800s-1900s: Back then when music was being written, it was influenced or inspired by many things. Most of the songs were about war. But others were about love and life experiences. Music comes from what the writeris going through or thinking. They wrote about culture, and the songs were turned into dances. |
1900s-2000s: In most recent years drug use by musicians has become more and more popular. Many of them die due to overdose. For example, the king of pop, Michael Jackson, died due to an overdose of drugs he was given by his doctor. This one wasn’t necessarily his fault, but there are many other cases of these now days. Drugs throughout the country are becoming more common all the time. Musicians get caught in drugs when they go to parties, become addicted, and can’t stop. When this happens its usually the death of them. 1900s-2000s- Instruments in recent times have become very
different. Musicians use guitars, pianos, and many others. Now musicians can use technology to make different sounds, and to combine different sounds into one. Music in the turn of the century has in fact change America’s culture when it comes to music. 1900s-2000s: Music today is written for much different reasons.
The songs that people write do write about their life experiences. For example, they write about racial differences, relationships they might have had, abuse, etc. The things that songs are about are influenced by personal experience and beliefs. |
